KMOX Auto Show Host Shares Winter Car Care Tips

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – As the extreme winter cold approaches, KMOX Auto Show host Greg Damon gives a few suggestions on how to keep your car in top-working order.
He first suggests checking the pressure on your car’s tires.

“You want to make sure you have a good, working tire pressure gauge, make sure it’s correct, and make sure they’re filled up properly,” Damon advises.
He says to check the tire pressure after a car has been sitting for a few hours – not after it’s been driven.

Damon says to also consider getting some new tires before the snow and ice arrive.
“If your tire’s six years old or older – needs to be replaced,” he says. “Doesn’t matter how much tread you have left on there. It has a lot to do with weather cracking and all sorts of other attributes for the tire.”

Damon’s best advice is to take your car to an ASE-certified technician and have a winter check-up done on things like belts and hoses, tires and windshield wipers.
And it’s never too early to pack a winter survival kit in your car for when extreme cold temperatures come.
